During the pandemic, I spent countless hours dreaming of road trips to breathtaking places like Zion National Park and the Grand Canyon. But after my cancer diagnosis, I was filled with regret for the dreams I hadn’t yet fulfilled.

One morning, I saw a segment on the Today Show about a group of women embarking on a life-changing trip to Zion National Park. Instantly, I knew I had to go. The trip promised hiking, horseback riding, canyoneering, and connections with like-minded women.

While I was excited about most of the activities, canyoneering terrified me. I had a paralyzing fear of heights since I was 14. The thought of rappelling down steep vertical declines was overwhelming, and my mind was flooded with doubts and fears. But as the trip approached, something shifted inside me. I chose to embrace the challenge, leaning into my fear instead of letting it control me.

On the day of canyoneering, despite my nerves, I was fully committed. When a 70-year-old woman bravely volunteered to go first, I felt inspired and followed suit. With each step down, my fear transformed into confidence. When my feet finally touched the ground, I felt an overwhelming sense of triumph—I had conquered my biggest fear.

This experience taught me that what I feared the most could become what I loved the most. It gave me a renewed sense of my capabilities and the confidence that I could conquer anything.
