In Life After 50, It'll Always Be OK, to Not Be OK
Jelly Roll & Kelly Clarkson singing, “I Am Not Okay” on The Kelly Clarkson Show
In this heartfelt episode of Life is Now… Do It While You Can!, Suzanne Oshima, Life Coach for Women OVer 50, opens up about something many of us struggle with but rarely admit: the feeling of not being OK. As women, we often put on a brave face, carrying the weight of the world while trying to keep everything together. But what happens when the strength we rely on starts to crumble, and we feel lost and vulnerable inside?
Inspired by Jelly Roll’s deeply emotional song, “I Am Not Okay,” Suzanne was reminded of those pivotal moments in her own life when she was anything but OK. From the shadows of depression in her 20s and 30s to the fear and uncertainty of facing a cancer diagnosis, she shares how she found herself in those dark places — places where getting out of bed felt impossible, and the future seemed uncertain.
Through these raw reflections, Suzanne invites listeners to explore the courage it takes to embrace where we are emotionally, even when it’s painful. She shares how the simple yet powerful act of letting go, of surrendering to the present moment, can be a turning point. And she offers hope, reminding us that it’s OK to struggle, it’s OK to reach out for support, and it’s OK to admit, “I am not okay.”
If you’re going through a tough time, feeling like you’re on the edge of holding it all together, this episode is for you. Tune in and find comfort in knowing that you’re not alone, and that even in our darkest moments, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel waiting to guide us forward.
Reflections for Living Life After 50 to the Fullest
If you’re going through a tough time where you feel like everything is falling apart in your life, it’s important to know that you’re not alone. Take a moment to reflect on these questions:
- Have you given yourself permission to feel what you’re going through?
We often resist where we are because it feels too painful or uncomfortable, or we don’t like to admit to others that we’re going through a tough time. But allowing yourself to feel those emotions is the first step toward healing. - Come up with a mantra that gives you hope and grounds you. If you need one, you can borrow mine: “I’m OK…Everything will be OK.” Repeat it whenever the weight feels too heavy to carry.
- It’s OK to ask for help.
Don’t be afraid to reach out for support when you need it. Whether it’s seeing a therapist, or asking a friend or family member for support. Sometimes, the strongest thing we can do is let others know that we need a little help.
You don’t have to navigate this journey alone. Take a moment to breathe — because while it’s not always easy, everything truly will be okay.
